16c. Medeival Flower Pendant | Cynthia Ann Jewels

It’s no secret that Vikings loved their jewelry. History shows us that they adorned themselves with a variety of decorative personal items crafted from bronze, silver and gold and both males and females would wear multiple pieces of jewelry. This included rings, pendants and bracelets. Their jewelry was chunky and heavy, made to withstand the rigors of battle and to proudly proclaim their heritage and riches. The Vikings created jewelry by making a wax mold and pouring melted metal into it.  The wax mold was broken once the metal had cooled and the piece was buffed until it shone.  This is called the “lost wax” method.  Early in their history the Norse jewelry was very simple but later the Vikings created beautiful, intricate pieces, but there was a nearly total lack of set stones.   Jewelry was worn for adornment but was also a means of exchange and used to seal friendships and alliances.
